Just joking, we want you on the porch!
You have probably heard of Solomon's Porch or Portico but let me tell you what it means here In the Porch.
The Beginning
Where does the name Solomons Porch come from?
A Brief History
In the design of Herod’s temple, the second one built, it was the eastern colonnade that was known as Solomon colonnade or more well known as Solomon’s Porch. Regular people like you or I could not step foot inside the actual temple. That was for the priests or the Levites. The porch, or colonnade is where the people gathered to glean what they heard from those speaking inside. Later, it is also where a large group of people could congregate. During the ministry of Jesus, this where people came to be healed by Jesus. This is also where business and trade occurred. Consequently, it is where Jesus turned over the table in anger when things became about greed and perversion.
Today, the porch is still a place where people gather and share information, where bonds are formed. The porch in the Black community was also a source of information, gossip, help, friendships, and community. Now it is where the people of God will gather to establish God's Kingdom here on earth.
Don't you mean on the porch?
Nope, the bible uses the term in Solomon’s Porch, not on. That suggests an immersive experience. Something that you become a part of and that transforms you.
Likewise, the goals of The Porch are to get the revealed of God together and immersed in the word of God. We want to be transformed by what is in the bible to be the examples the faith, family, and communities that would draw people to God's love.
We hope you stop by to join in!
